8. Consider Frozen Food
Some nights you’re just not in the mood to cook… And that’s where frozen meals come in! TV dinners get a bad reputation, but they’re not all bad.
Sure, some meals have hundreds of calories and way too much sodium, but there are lots of healthy options too! Flip the box over and check out the nutrition label.
Go for meals that fit the following criteria per serving (keep in mind that the box may contain more than one serving!):
- 300-500 calories
- No more than 30% of calories from fat (e.g. 17g for a 500 meal)
- At least 3-5 grams of fiber
- Maximum 600-800 grams of sodium
- At least 8-10 grams of protein
If the meal you select has more than one serving per box, be realistic with yourself about whether you’ll eat just one serving.
If you’re much more likely to eat the whole container, make sure to calculate nutrition based on the whole thing – not just one serving.
