Why is food so important?

One of the worst things we do when we try to lose weight is to spend hours in the gym on cardio machines.  While cardio exercise is truly important for heart health, it isn’t as effective for weight loss.  To lose weight, you almost have to “trick” your body into burning fat in short, intense bursts.

That means a short workout, no more than 30 minutes, which is high in muscle training and light on cardio.  Incorporate lunges, jumps, sprints, strength training, rowing and a bit of cardio for warm up and cool down.  If you don’t know how to do this safely, get a trainer to show you how.

The goal is to force your metabolism to rev up fast, burning fat to power the muscles.  Once you settle into long cardio routines, the body becomes too efficient in storing new fat in anticipation of upcoming endurance workouts.
